Kansas City, MO— February 12, 2024 — Today, Charles McDonald formally announced his candidacy for First District Commissioner of Platte County. McDonald announced his candidacy at the Platte County Democrats Fall Festival this past September.
During his announcement, McDonald highlighted openness, transparency, and accountability in county governance as the goals of the county commissioner. We need Platte County to work for all its citizens. From maintaining our roads, trails, and parks to stopping wasteful spending, we need to ensure everyone enjoys the benefits of living in Platte County.
McDonald is a political newcomer, this being his first time running for any elected office. He has spent over 20 years working in healthcare and the nonprofit sector. McDonald has worked on various local, regional, and national boards over the last several years. He has a master's in business administration and management from Avila University.
His campaign mission is for Platte County to be a great place to live and raise a family and a thriving community where every resident has a voice.
As Commissioner, he plans to:
• Implement a comprehensive strategic plan for the county.
• Promote community engagement in the decision-making process.
• Encourage development that aligns with the character of the county.
• Foster better relationships with the municipalities in Platte County and neighboring counties in the region. Being the fastest-growing county in Missouri, we need to develop a vision for the next 10 to 20 years that deals with transportation, housing, public safety, safe roads, trails, and parks. We want to have smart growth for Platte County, meaning economic development while maintaining the neighborly charm and appeal of the county. We must engage the whole community and work with our municipalities and neighboring counties to make it possible.
Charles and his family moved to Platte County in 2006 after leaving New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. His children attended school in the Park Hill school district. He is a member and volunteered at the local YMCA and Scouts BSA. He enjoys attending church and other local activities, spending time with his family, and connecting with friends
